Setting Up Posts for Contests

Social Media Manager makes announcing, running, and finishing your contests a fun, easy process! With just a few clicks, you can establish the “rules” by which your contests are announced on each of your social networks, and customize exactly how they're announced.

 

Head to “Contest Settings”

Click on the “Manage” tab at the top of your Home screen, and select “Social Media Manager” from the drop-down.

Click on “Settings”


Click on “#2 - Program Activities”


Click on “Contests”


This is where you will establish the announcements that Social Media Manager releases:

  • When a Contest is Scheduled
  • When a Contest Is Started
  • When a Contest Winner is Selected

Start by Configuring 'When a Contest Is Scheduled'

In this panel, we'll tell Social Media Manager to announce our upcoming Contests.

First, we'll click the Calendar Icon and decide which social networks should receive upcoming Contest announcements.

If you do not want a particular network to receive updates about your contest, simply click the “Toggle” button to turn it “On” or “Off.”

 
Next, tell Social Media Manager how many days prior to the start of the contest it should announce your upcoming contest. If you’d like multiple “lead-up” announcements to go out, simply click “Add New Rule” to add more!

 
Finally, we'll create our own custom message for each announcement.

Here, we'll tell Social Media Manager what to say when posting an upcoming Contest announcement.

  1. Click "Edit Message" next to a Schedule Rule.
  2. Compose your custom message in the Message box using text and message variables.
  3. Repeat for each Schedule Rule you created.

What's a Message Variable?

A Message Variable is a placeholder for real information that will appear in your live announcements. This information will change depending on which contest is being announced.

Try it out!

Simply drag and drop an available variable into the message box.

Then, preview what the message will look like when it goes live by hovering over any of the social network icons.


Get creative and have fun, then click “Save” once you are finished.

 

Configure 'When a Contest Is Started”

In this panel, we'll tell Social Media Manager what to say when it announces our currently running Contests.

The process is identical to that of upcoming contests. First, we'll decide which social networks should receive started Contest announcements. Then, we'll set just how often and when. Finally, we'll create our own custom message for each announcement.

Configure 'When a Contest Winner Is Selected'

Now that we've configured our pre-contest announcements and currently running contest announcements, let’s configure the contest winner announcement.

Click the Trophy Icon, then use the "On/Off" toggles to decide which social networks you want to receive your Contest Winner announcements.

Set Delay and Frequency:

  • Delay: How long to wait before making the first post.
  • Repeat?: How often to repeat the post.
  • For: How long to repeat the post.

Click "Save."
